– 2 COR. 5.14 –
“The charity of Christ compels us,” says St. Paul. “Compels us”…to do what? To love Him in return. In this academic year 2026-2027, SMC invites her students to consider her perennial motto, “Instaurare Omnia In Christo”, under the lens of the LOVE of Christ our King. Christ is King of the human race both by nature and by conquest. To rebel against His rights and complete dominion over society is to rebel against reality. Yet, we must also realize Who Christ is: God, Who loves each one of us. He loves that which is not—us poor creatures—and because of His love, we come to be. He blesses us with all that we have and are, on both the natural and supernatural level: health, intelligence, personality, family, country, faith, skills, weaknesses, opportunities… Here at SMC, students come from every different background, yet all have in common that they have received everything from God. “What do I have that has not been given to me?”, each soul must ask itself. This generosity is the proof, not just of God’s dominion over us, but of how much He loves us. To love is to will the good of another and sacrifice oneself for it: God became man, and in the person of Jesus Christ, really did sacrifice Himself for us poor creatures. Now the correct response to being loved is to answer this love. Our Lord truly craves this answer of our love: “I looked for one who would comfort Me…” Specifically, He desires good Communions, especially on First Fridays, to repair for all the insults offered to Him by those who ignore, or outright reject, this Kingship which belongs to Him, and through which He has shown His infinite love for us. Therefore, this year’s focus at SMC will be on reparation for the offenses against Christ the King, especially through Holy Communion and the Nine First Fridays devotion. Christ is our King, and we enter His Kingdom by a spirit of penance. We make Him King by recognizing His Kingship and submitting to it in our own lives, by consecrating all the faculties He has given us back to His service. We are here at SMC to do one thing: God’s Will; not our own will, but the Will of the King. Christ is “REX PACIFICUS”, the King of Peace. The reign of His peace is established in society when it is first established in the hearts of men and women, which we accomplish by placing Him first in our daily lives, studies, work, and friendships. “The charity of Christ compels us”: seeing our King’s incredible love for us presses us to respond by loving Him in return.
