Trips to Rome Announced

The third-year curriculum includes a two-week summer trip to Rome. The purpose of the trip is for students to profit from the riches that Rome has to offer – spiritual, historical, cultural, artistic, and architectural. If the goal of the college is “sentire cum Ecclesia”, then a visit to the Eternal City seems almost indispensable to draw our students to a greater love for “Eternal Rome, mistress of wisdom and truth.” The trip occurs during the summer between the second and third years.

A Mass with fervourino will mark each day of the trip, expert guides will give tours everywhere we go, and an emphasis will also be made on studying Latin while on the trip with readings from various texts at key sites.

The trip is mandatory and open to all incoming third-year students, including transfer students and returning SMC graduates of the retired two-year program. The cost of the trip is included in the third-year tuition, which remains the same as concurrent academic years. The trip is part pilgrimage and part academic study, but plenty of free time is in the schedule also to allow students to discover Rome on their own.
