Mrs. Kelly Childs

Biography

Kelly Childs discovered the liberal arts at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, where she earned her B.A. in English and teacher certification in secondary education. She completed her M.A. in English at the University of Maryland while working as an acquisitions editor for the Naval Institute Press, during which time she met and married then LT Matthew Childs, launching her journey to Catholicism as a Navy wife. Before her conversion in 1995 she zealously pursued a career wherever the Navy sent her husband, first in publishing, serving as production manager, freelance editor, and proofreader for a small press until transitioning to higher education as the Coordinator of Writing Services at the Citadel in Charleston, SC. A move back to Annapolis brought her to Loyola College of Maryland where she provided academic support services, including a Writing Center, as Assistant Director of Advising, until, with the guidance of her husband and Dr. David A. White she realized her true vocation as a Catholic wife and mother. For several years prior to her family’s move to St. Mary’s, Mrs. Childs taught her own children at home—which moved six times over the course of fifteen years—until CDR Childs retired from the Navy. At long last she is “living the dream” as a part time professor of Composition and Literature and a Crossfit coach at the best liberal arts college in the world.
