Singing has always been one of the favorite recreational activities of the St. Mary’s College students. After releasing a CD of folk songs last year, they were invited to perform during the recent Fall Music Festival, which was hosted by the Academy as a fundraiser. A choir of current students and alumni was quickly assembled, and Mrs. Krista Childs returned to conduct. Fr. Franks, Fr. McBride, and several students formed an instrumental group (which included an accordion, fiddle, piano, tin whistle, and guitars), accompanied several of the songs, and played some instrumental pieces as well. Although many of the songs were old favorites from the CD, the students learned one or two new ones for the occasion, and the performance was enjoyable for singers and audience alike.
The Festival ran for two weekends, and although the College only sang on the second night, various students went every evening to enjoy the performances, eat potato ribbons, and watch their priests, teachers, friends, and family share their talent.
